“I call myself a feminist when people ask me if I am, and of course I am ‘cause it’s about equality, so I hope everyone is. You know you’re working in a patriarchal society when the word feminist has a weird connotation. “Hippie” has a weird connotation. “Liberal” has a weird connotation.” —

That is very true, and I’ve never stopped once to think about it. How’s that for insidious. Can I call myself a feminist hippie liberal, since I graduated from Berkeley and have suddenly acquired a set of political views that keeps me awake at night?

“Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore.” —

Lady Gaga

She says she isnt a feminist… But this quote is still amazing to me.

(via mmmfeminism)

But she IS a feminist! :)

“Yes. Yes I am. I am a feminist. I reject wholeheartedly the way we are taught to perceive women. The beauty of women, how a woman should act or behave. Women are strong and fragile. Women are beautiful and ugly. We are soft spoken and loud, all at once. There is something mind-controlling about the way we’re taught to view women. My work, both visually and musically, is a rejection of all those things. And most importantly a quest. It’s exciting because all of the avant-garde clothing, and musical style and lyrics that at one time was considered shocking or unacceptable are now trendy. Perhaps we can make women’s rights trendy. Strength, feminism, security, the wisdom of the woman. Let’ make that trendy.”

- Lady Gaga

I think this quote is a more recent one.

Please…marry me Gaga, please…

That quote is always worth the reblog, really.

“Actors were poor. Celebrities used to be kings and queens. Then the United States abolished monarchy, and now there’s this coming together of show business and celebrity. I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t want to sound self-important, but all these celebrity shows and magazines - it comes from us, from Hollywood, from our country. We’re the ones creating it. And I think it works in close step with a lot of other bad things that are happening in the world. It promotes greed, it promotes being selfish and it promotes this ladder, where you’re a better person if you have more money. It’s not at all about the work itself. Don’t get me wrong. I love movies. But this myth of celebrity has nothing to do with movies.” —Joseph Gordon-Levitt (via the-architect-) (via poeticprinciple) (via sameolddance) (via michelinamarie) (via theverbalthing) (via lefay) (via vnessaa) (via braided)
